The birthplace of Roswitha von Gandersheim (10 C), Germany's first poetess, is now an extremely popular hot spring and salt-water spa. The cathedral with its twin octagonal towers butressing the façade dominates the historic town centre. Inside are two very fine altars, one 15C and the other 16C.
