Bad Säckingen
: Michelin's recommendations
The history of Bad Säckingen goes back to a missionary cell founded by St Fridolin in 522. The Benedictine monastery determined the town's fortunes for many centuries. In 1173, the monastery and the small town were taken over by the Hapsburgs, remaining under Austrian rule until 1805. The curative properties of the hot water springs for people with motor disorders were only recognized in 1978, when the town was officially dubbed «Bad» (spa).
