35th International Vintage Car Meeting at Baden-Baden

35th International Vintage Car Meeting at Baden-Baden

Emmanuel Tresmontant - 2011-06-13

From 8th to 10th July 2011, over 350 vintage cars built before 1970 of every make and type, from all over Europe, will be on exhibition at this prestigious meeting known for its refinement, sensuality and humour.

For today’s Vintage car enthusiasts the Baden-Baden Meeting is the event that must not be missed under any pretext! Every year the legendary Black Forest spa town situated barely 10 miles from the Franco-German border lends its picturesque decor to this nostalgic parade of vehicles.
Wearing period costumes, hats, gloves, leather suitcases and umbrellas, with some accompanied by fine pure bred dogs, participants will drive their cars along the Lichtentaler Allee (the city’s most beautiful promenade along the river Oos) and down the Emperor’s Avenue. Picnics will be held at noon on the lawn of the famous casino created in the 19th century by the Frenchman Jacques Bénazet, whilst music crackles out of antique 78 rpm gramophones.
For the occasion of 125 years of automobile history, the event this summer will be particularly poignant since the 1886 All-Paris, Berlin, Vienna and Moscow meeting to attend the first ever tests by German engineers was held in Baden Baden. This year, collectors will come from Moscow and Saint Petersburg, restoring life to the Russian Aristocracy’s old saying of "having a Baden-Baden" (to have a good time)!
Visiting the town of Baden Baden is a ritual in itself. You can have tea on the terrace of Brenners, go to the racecourse, or plunge into the "Irish-Roman" baths in at Friedrichsbad, a magnificent neo-Renaissance palace where Mark Twain said: "In Friedrichsbad you forget time after ten minutes, and after twenty, you forget the world." You can also drink the spring water at the Trinkhalle (this unbottled water has been known since antiquity as a cure for depression) before attending a concert at the Festspielhaus.
This outdoor exhibition will last three consecutive days, after which the winners will receive an engraved cup before the garden party finale and a hot air balloon flight.
