This medieval town built on seven hills is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Transformed in the 17C and 18C into a Baroque city by the prince-bishops and spared bombing during the war, Bamberg is now home to almost 2 300 listed historical monuments, including medieval churches, Baroque-style mansions and monumental buildings. Built on one of the hills, the old centre, with streets lined with antique shops and a cathedral dominated by four bell towers, is still the heart of the city and is the most important architectural masterpiece in the region.
