From this the most downstream bridge of the island there is a fine view over the banks of the River Regnitz and the half-timbered houses of the fishermen's quarter, nicknamed "Little Venice" by Maximilian II. With their balconies and tiny gardens where moored boats bob about, these houses make for a romantic sight; every year, in August, they are the fairy-tale setting for the Sandkerwa folk festival, when fishermen compete in jousting.
