The former monastery was turned into a sumptuous palace. From 1923 onwards, it was the residence of Crown Prince Rupert, ex-generalissimo of the Bavarian troops during the First World War and head of the Wittelsbachs until his death in 1955. He filled the residence with furniture and works of art and opened these collections to the public: arms, porcelains, 15C and 16C wooden sculptures, and objet d'art from the Far East.
