The salt mines began to be worked in 1517 and brought prosperity to the region. You visit the museum wearing miner's overalls, on a train that takes you through the galleries. You then climb down a steep 34m slope to the mine itself, and are invited to cross the underground lake on a raft. This obstacle course ends with the a documentary film and a tour of the museum.
