The old church of St Peter and St John was built on Romanesque foundations by Augustinian monks. Its façade shows a definite Lombard influence, with its decorative pattern of stone in alternating colours. The distinguishing feature of the interior is the chancel, much higher than the nave and in a much purer Gothic style.
