This castle (1794-97) was built to resemble a ruin in the style which was fashionable at the beginning of the Romantic period. The drawing rooms with their parquet floors and wood panelling house mementoes of Queen Louise who used to enjoy staying on Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island). The building has not changed since 1800. The ground floor was reserved for the royal family, and the first floor for the king.
