The archives contain no fewer than 10 000 German and foreign films and over a million documents, photos, posters and programmes. The museum is primarily focused on German cinema, with exhibits that include sets and props from Fritz Lang’s 1927 Metropolis, a reconstruction of Robert Wiene’s 1919 The Cabinet of Dr Caligari and the films of Leni Riefenstahl, the controversial director of “Triumph of the Will” (1935). The exhibition reveals the secrets of special effects and pays particular attention to the artistic legacy of Marlene Dietrich.
