It was in the 14C that this small town in the heart of the lake-strewn Havelland began to prosper, mainly thanks to the cloth trade. The Dom St Peter und St Paul, remodelled several times, is furnished with several Gothic altarpieces. A mausoleum in memory of the clergy murdered during the Nazi regime is visible in the double nave crypt. Extravagant, exterior decoration distinguishes the brick-built 15C St Katharinenkirche which has a polygonal chancel and an ambulatory.
