The Gothic building was altered in the Renaissance style (17C). Note the Gothic statues of Charlemagne and the Seven Electors on the main façade. On one corner of the western wing is a modern bronze sculpture representing the «Animal musicians of Bremen», characters from a popular fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Inside, note the spiral staircase of the council chamber and the Guildhall, with lavish leather wall-hangings enriched with gold.
