Coburg : Michelin's recommendations

Coburg, the former seat of a small duchy wedged between the Upper Main valley and the Thüringer Forest, has been part of Bavaria since the 1920 referendum. A royal estate is thought to have been on this site in the 9C and 10C. Johann Casimir, the first ruler of the tiny duchy of Saxony-Coburg, laid the foundations for a well-organized state. Coburg's Renaissance townscape, surmounted by a mighty fortress, dates from this period.
