This museum shows the development of functional aesthetics in craftwork from the Middle Ages to postmodernist design. As well as a large collection of furniture, textiles and sculptures, the section on ceramics shows the various productions from Rhenan sandstone to Italian and Islamic majolica as well as European porcelain. The sections devoted to metallic arts (especially jewellery) and glasswork are the museum's focal points.
