Frauenkirche : Michelin's recommendations

Building of the imposing Church of Our Lady began in 1726. It has become the city's emblem and is considered the building most representative of Protestant architecture. Its dome was destroyed by the bombings of February 1945, after which only 10% of the church remained intact. Until Reunification the ruins of the church symbolised the destruction of the city by the Allies. Reconstruction only began in 1994 and the church was consecrated on 30 October 2005. The crypt houses the stone altar by British sculptor Anish Kapoor and the sepulture by architect Georg Bähr.

    Es ist das bestausgelastetet Gotteshaus Deutschlands und die zweithäufigste besuchte Sehenswürdigkeit Deutschlands. Ein Muß für jeden. Ein Symbol für den Frieden

    Das Eintrittsgeld für den Turmaufstieg ist recht happig.

    Pros

    In 1987 was dit nog een grote, maar bovenal imposante, puinhoop. Na de oorlog zijn de brokstukken blijven liggen als herinnering aan het (onnodige) bombardement van 13-14 februari 1945. Het herbouwen van de kerk was in mijn ogen niet nodig.
