Approximately five thousand animals, of six hundred species, live in this zoo which is renowned for its success in reproduction. A large aviary is home to many birds most of which have very colourful plumage. Fish, reptiles, penguins and insects are found in the exotarium. The Grzimek-Haus, which is plunged in darkness during the day, lets you observe animals which hunt at night such as the fennec and tapir. Also spectacular is the hive where you can observe the thousands of bees at work.
