The market place is surrounded by houses with slate-covered façades. The Gothic Kaiserworth and town hall are the most impressive buildings. In the centre of the square stands a fountain with large two bronze basins, surmounted by a crowned imperial eagle. Be sure to look at the chiming clock on the house opposite the town hall, which has four tableaux depicting the story of mining in the Harz from the Middle Ages to the present day.
