The Ernst-Barlach Stiftung foundation pays tribute to the memory of the great artist in three different places in Güstrow, where he lived between 1910 and 1938. The late Gothic St Gertrude chapel contains his religious sculptures, while the Atelierhaus am Heidburg, the house he used as a studio, has an exhibition of his studio models. In 1998, the first museum to be built in the new State of former East Germany was inaugurated.
