The composer's birthplace is now a museum devoted to his life and work. Period musical instruments are exhibited in one section, including several 16C and 17C keyboard instruments.

This huge square is overlooked by the towers of the Market Church and the Red Tower (15C), nearly 80m high. In the centre stands a statue of Handel (1859). The market and tramway line make it the busiest part of the city.
