Hildesheim : Michelin's recommendations

Hildersheim was the capital of Ottonian Romanesque art in Germany. Its fine medieval heritage was totally destroyed in March 1945. The thousand-year old rose-tree: one evening in 815, Louis the Pious, tired from a day's hunting, hid his reliquary in a rose bush and went to sleep. The next day, he was unable to remove the casket from the branches. Taking this as a divine sign, he founded a chapel and then a bishopric. Destroyed in the bombing of 1945, the rose bush eventually came back to life.
