This town, whose population is over 40,000, has an interesting historic centre. Its old town hall dates from 1608. The Storchenturm is the only remaining vestige of the fortress. Burgheim Church is of Carolingian origins, but its belfry is Romanesque. In the nave are frescoes (1463) depicting St Christopher and the Holy Trinity.
