Of the original 13C castle (Burg), only the keep, St George’s chapel (remarkable for its statuary), and the Gothic hall known as the Alte Dürnitz remain. The rest of the castle was modified during the Renaissance period. Note the beautiful arcaded galleries and the Jesters' Staircase (Narrentreppe), painted with scenes from the Commedia dell'Arte. From a loggia (Söller), there is a fine view of the town and the spire of St Martin's Church.
