In one of the wild valleys of the Ammergau Alps, the hunting preserve of the old royal House of Bavaria, among the wooded slopes, Ludwig II had the delightful little palace of Linderhof built. Built in the 18C style, it served as the backdrop, along with its Moorish pavilion and grotto, for the romantic fancies of the King, who was obsessed by Oriental tales and Germanic heroic legends.
