Mannheim : Michelin's recommendations

Situated at the confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar, Mannheim was founded in 1606 by the Palatine elector Friedrich IV, who fortified the city. The city centre is made up of 144 residential blocks laid out in a checkerboard pattern and designated only by a letter and a number according to their coordinates. The arts, and above all the theatre - the plays of Schiller were created here, soon made Mannheim a city of the Muses.
