Founded in 1868, the Staatliches Museum für Volkerkunde is the second largest ethnographical museum in Germany, housing more than 200 000 exhibits from the Americas, India, the Middle East and Oceania. The collections once belonged to the royal family of Bavaria and were exhibited for the first time in 1836.
