Naumburg : Michelin's recommendations

Naumburg, seat of a bishopric since 1028, is in the middle of the Saale-Unstrut-Triasland national park. As early as the 12C, an independent city developed alongside the cathedral city. Naumburg was a major trading centre in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, competing with Leipzig's trade fair. The city became part of Prussia with the Congress of Vienna, and in 1991 was one of five cities in the new eastern states to be chosen as a model for the restoration of historic city centres.
