Nuremberg
: Michelin's recommendations
Nuremberg was promoted by Hitler as the “ideological capital” of the Third Reich and it was here that the Allies chose to establish the international military tribunal which would judge 24 of the leaders and eight of the organisations of Nazi Germany. Today the city is one of the main industrial centres of southern Germany and a cultural capital thanks to its exceptional National Museum. If you’re here in December, don’t miss one of the best Christmas markets in the country, which is held in the medieval centre of the town. Make sure you taste the famous gingerbread which is sold in pretty coloured boxes.
