Bibendum
Founded in 1852, this museum has 1.2 million objects, of which 20,000 are on permanent display. During your visit of this museum, housed in an old 14th C convent, you will first see the art gallery. All the major schools of the 14th and 15th C are here. Make sure you see the works by Albrecht Dürer and the other masters of the German Renaissance. The sculpture collection contains works by Veit Stoss, Tilman Riemenschneider and Ignaz Günther. In terms of decorative arts, its various types are given in a presentation of glass, ceramics, furniture and textiles. Holy art collections show the techniques of artists in the Middle Ages. There are reconstructed peasant houses and costumes in the folklore section. The section on toys and collection of doll's houses (one dating back to 1639) is particularly fascinating. The collection of old musical instruments includes one of the largest collections of pianofortes in the world. As for scientific instruments, do not miss the earth globe by Behaim (1492/1493) - it is the oldest representation of the earth in spherical form. Aside from a section on medical instruments, the museum also includes a collection of hunting equipment and weapons, prehistorical ruins and a coin cabinet. Finally, for those who like graphic art, the engravings cabinet is exceptionally full.
