This museum owns millions of objects, of which 20,000 are on permanent display, making it the most important art and antiquities museum in Germany. The art gallery exhibits works by Albrecht Dürer and other masters of the German Renaissance. Other collections feature engravings, coins, medieval sacred art, decorative arts, scientific instruments and old musical instruments. There is also a section dedicated to prehistory. Lastly, the museum is also home to the museum of arts and trades.
