A town on the Austrian border, Passau enjoys a pleasant location at the confluence of the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz. Thanks to the Danube, trade with Bohemia was hugely important for the town, which was a powerful bishopric. The old town is graced with Baroque churches and patrician houses.
