The church was built on the model of the Basilica di San Clemente in Rome, under Frederick William IV, between 1844 and 1854. And it is here that the King is buried. In the apse there is a fine mosaic, brought from the island of Murano and dates back to the first half of the 13C. The mausoleum houses reclining figures of the Emperor Frederick III and his wife, as well as the sarcophagus of Frederick William I.
