Rothenburg : Michelin's recommendations

Overlooking the winding course of the Tauber, the town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is surrounded by imposing ramparts. Its gabled houses, narrow streets and refreshing fountains all create an authentic medieval atmosphere. The town originally boasted two castles, the first imperial, the second belonging to a count, built opposite each other high above the town, but both were destroyed by an earthquake in 1356. Nowadays this unspoiled, picturesque town looks much as it did in the Middle Ages, making it a delightful place to visit.
