Schwäbisch Gmünd : Michelin's recommendations
This former imperial city lies in the Rems Valley, a popular destination for day trippers. The Roman colony of Gamundia, first mentioned in 782, was granted its town charter by Konrad III (1138-1152) of the Hohenstaufen dynasty. Traditionally, Swäbisch Gmünd is a centre for the working of precious metals. Today the «city of gold and silver» numbers some 70 gold- and silversmiths. Their cutlery, dishes and chandeliers grace the finest tables.
