Schwäbisch Hall : Michelin's recommendations
This old town, built in terraces along the steep flank of the Kocher Valley, grew up around salt springs which were exploited as far back as Celtic times. In the Middle Ages, the town became famous for the Imperial silver coins, Häller or Heller, minted there. The roofs of the old quarter cluster around the foot of St Michael's Church and the old arsenal. Some fine examples of 15C and 16C half-timbered houses can be admired along the Ober Herrngasse and the Untere Herrngasse.
