Überlingen : Michelin's recommendations
This former Imperial City was founded in 1180 by Frederick I Barbarossa. Its growth and prosperity in the Middle Ages were largely due to harvests from the vineyards and trade in salt and wheat. In 1379 the city was granted Imperial freedom. From the mid 19C the tourist industry, fostered by a particularly mild climate, played an increasingly important economic role.
