The colourful houses of Wangen are laid out around a cruciform plan, with the two main streets intersecting at Marktplatz. Herrenstrasse is lined with attractive houses, many with decorative shop signs, and leads to the Ravensburger Tor: a square gateway of which the 17C coping, confined by engaged turrets, is topped with an elegant ribbed roof. St. Martinstor (St. Martin's Gate) is crowned with a pyramidal roof decorated with finely worked gargoyles and paintings.
