We reach the castle via an attractive narrow street bordered with arcades and known as the Krambuden. Originally a stronghold conquered by Henry the Lion, the building was subjected to many transformations before finally evolving into the present Baroque residence. In the 16C and 17C, under the rule of several ducal patrons, the castle became a centre for literature and sacred music. Furniture, tapestries and valuable paintings recreate the atmosphere of court life in the 18C.
