The imposing Baroque west façade lends a powerful sense of movement to the whole church. The three-aisle nave inherited from the original Romanesque building was extended at the beginning of the 18C by a huge domed bay. In niches below this cupola are a Riemenschneider Virgin and Child and Christ in an unusual pose with arms folded. In the west crypt is the tomb of St. Killian, apostle, patron of Franconia and missionary.
