The former abbey of the Premonstratensians, founded in the 12C, still boasts its remarkable abbey church, though it was modified in the 18C. Only the exterior has preserved the squat aspect of the original Romanesque buildings. The Gothic entrance is enriched with a painted genealogy of the House of Welf, the original founders of the abbey. Furnishings in both the Baroque and Rococo styles lend the interior a certain theatrical quality, as if symbolizing the triumph of decoration over architecture.
