On the Tempelberg, the highest point of Rügen-Est (107m), Prince Wilhelm Malte 1 von Putbus had a hunting lodge built in 1837, in the neo-Gothic Tudor style. This massive construction stands in the heart of Granitz forest with its round crenellated towers. A viewpoint 38 m high was erected in 1844 in the inner courtyard. The 154 steps of the spiral wrought iron staircase lead to a platform with a fine view of Rügen island.
