Moritzburg Castle was originally a Renaissance hunting pavilion. At the behest of Friedrich Augustus I, it was largely remodelled in the early 18C by MD Pöppelmann. The edifice can be recognized by the imposing corner towers of ochre and white, colours associated with the Saxon Baroque. The palace is set off by an artificial lake and park. Today it houses a Baroque museum. Also visit the ornithology museum in the Pheasant's Lodge.
