230 million tears ago the Wendelstein was part of a coral reef. Known as a «geology park» for this reason, it has four trails for walkers going through it. The most attractive path leads the summit, but there is also a cableway or the more picturesque rack-railway. At the summit (1838m), crowned by a solar observatory and a chapel, there is a fine view of all the surrounding mountains.
