Ashburton : Michelin's recommendations

Located in Dartmoor National Park, this former Stannary town stands on a tributary of the River Dart, at the beginning of the old road across the heart of the moor. The medieval church with its tall granite tower was built when the town was a wool centre, before the emphasis changed to slate mining. The nearby River Dart Country Park offers a range of outdoor facilities (picnicking and bird-watching).
