Snowdonia was designated a National Park in 1951. Extending over an area of 2,180km², it is the second largest national park in England and Wales. Its wild beauty and spectacular mountains near the sea are a breathtaking sight. At 1,085m, Yr Wyddfa Fawr (The Great Tumulus) is the highest peak. The southern sector is dominated by Cadair Idris (893m). The park contains around one hundred peaks over 600m.
