Cuisine modern

Menu: £30 (weekdays) / £75

Spacious restaurant on the ground floor of an apartment block beside the canal basin, run by very welcoming owners. The husband creates original, modern dishes, while his clued-up wife makes recommendations from the interesting wine list.

      Pros

Welcoming staff and very knowledgable barman. Varied and eclectic wine list with reasonably priced entry level wines. Adventurous and original menu and well presented food. Loved the popcorn prawns and chocolate dessert platter.

      Cons

No nibbles offered with pre dinner drinks. Although flavours were good and worked well, the tasting menu featured too many deep fried dishes. Needed more variety perhaps including red meat and sauces. Michelin starred price but below the bar in terms of experience. Petits fours arrived after we finished coffee.
