This pretty village 1km south of Windermere is known for its lakeside promenade. Boats coming and going constantly keep its bay lively, due to the yachting harbour and embarkation point for cruises on the open lake. A ferry (cars and pedestrians) crosses Lake Windermere to the western shore, thus bypassing the Newby Bridge end of the lake.
