Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr : Michelin's recommendations

Founded in 1180 by Edward Fitzoldbold, a rich citizen of Canterbury, the original buildings housed pilgrims who had come to see the tomb of Saint Thomas. Inside stands a 14 C chapel, which is still used for prayer. Upstairs, the northern wall of the refectory (12 C) is decorated with a fresco that was discovered in 1879. A chapel (12 C) just above the entrance hall has a remarkable wooden frame and roof.
