Cerne Abbas
: Michelin's recommendations
The village boasts a beautiful range of timber-fronted 16C houses. St Mary's Church has a spectacular stone tower. Not far away, the 55m-high chalk outline of a naked giant, possibly dating back to Roman times, has been cut out of the turf and is associated with local fertility rituals. The giant with his club is reminiscent of Roman representations of Hercules.
