  A warm welcome on arrival, attentive but discreet service in a relaxed comfortable atmosphere. The most excellent food, beautifully presented and delicious. Excellent from start to finish in all respects!

  Everything! Food, ambience, service, all impeccable.

  Cons

  When the bill arrived, there was a plasticized card from the hostess informing that £1 per person was being added to it in support of her favourite charity. It did say that if one chose not to contribute, they could tell them and it would be removed. It's a small amount but breached a principle which, in retrospect, I found to be offensive. If the hostess chooses to support a charity - or, for that matter, do anything with her money - let her do so. But I prefer to decide what to do with mine without the slightest coercion.

  Pros

  The service and surroundings were unobtrusive. The food, all three courses were of an amazing standard, certainly what one would expect of David's two stars. Helen and team kept in the background, but extremely warm and friendly. This is a real gem of a restaurant and one we will return to again.

  the 3 main dishes we each had were uniformly excellent. a couple of them such as the pigs cheek starter and venison mains were slow growers but then really clicked. this is sophisticated food that really rewards a little patience. . . the staff were very friendly and Helen made us feel very welcome. . also the recommended wine was half the price of the one I first suggested. very refreshing

  the room needs a refit. the art is lovely but we felt the layout and tables need bringing up to date. when we were there, a few of the tables were empty. a new design could maybe section these off to maintain the vibe in the rest of the dining room. these are minor comments as the food was so excellent though

  My wife and I have visited several times and always walk away very happy. This is excellent food at very reasonable prices. I have to drive from Bristol each time so that i hope says it all.

  The bread, meat dishes, deserts and the decor were as I would expect from a 2 star restaurant.

  Cons

  I was really disapointed by the fish dishes; starter and main course. The latter in particular was bathing in a buttery insipid sauce. One of the waitresses seemed pushy and grumpy.

  Ver little. Attention to detail expected from 2 star resturant was lacking

  What a totally different experience from us. We found the service surly in an unpleasant way. The flavours just don't work for example chocolate with olives, the olives did not complement the chocolate and the cheese cake which tasted of burnt caramel and salt. Non of the six dinners (who have all been to many fine dinning establishments)liked these. When pointed out to the women who was front of house, she explained that the pudding were as "the chef intended" and implied it was our fault for not liking them. The poor french waitresses seem to be in fear of her which leads to a tense atmosphere. 0/10

  Food was great. Cod with squid ink risotto and seared squid was exceptional.

  Terrible interior design. Feels like you are eating in a bank board room!
