Denbigh
: Michelin's recommendations
Denbigh is a commercial town clustered on a hillside overlooking the Vale of Clwyd to the east. Charming narrow streets lead to the ruined castle built by Henry de Lacy in 1282. The explorer Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904), best known for his remark "Doctor Livingstone, I presume?", was born in Denbigh and brought up in St Asaph.

Three interlinked 14C gatehouse towers, of a similar design to those of Caernarfon Castle, probably show the influence of the king's master mason, James of St George. The town walls, almost complete, date from the same period.
