Cuisine British modern

Menu: £19/ £28

Brightly painted restaurant with an internal courtyard and a herb garden. Formerly a manor house outbuilding, the rustic main room has high windows and French farmhouse styling; the bar is in a smaller vaulted room. Cooking is satisfying and filling, and centres around good old British classics.

      Pros

Nice and cosy, well managed restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. The three dishes we were served tasted really nice.

      Pros

loved the warm homely feel of the restaurant, plenty of room between tables to feel discreet but busy enough to feel that you aren't eating in a ballroom. the staff are pleasant, attentive and very polite. nothing seems to much of a bother to them. the little courtyard in the evening warmth is a lovely place to sit and chat before the meal. We both thought are food was wonderful, I can recommend the roast lamb and my partner thought the cheese soufflé was amazing. All in all an unhurried, lovely evening, with wonderful food and a really good selection of wines

      Cons

nothing really, it's not the best located place in the world, but once your inside you can forgive the somewhat uninspiring location, given that there's a lot of modern small office blocks dotted around it. it's a small price to pay for one of the best eatery's in the north east
