Pros
Lovely meal, extensive menu + value for money "Early Bird" menu 6:00-7:00 set in a great old stone building outside the city centre. The chef had taken time to mix taste and texture in the dishes I tried which worked well.
Cons
At the end of the evening when the restaurant was full, the service slowed which was a shame. - I would also of liked the waitress to explain the cheeses on the cheese plate. (Both minor criticism's that do not detract from a lovely meal.)

Pros
This restaurant does not try to be anything more than a fabulous bistro, and for that reason it has been successful for at least the last 10 years. The food is extremely well executed, with really great flavours. There are excellent value set meals, and a good wine list. The staff are friendly and attentive. This is the Durham version of Laybourne's 21s of which sadly now only Cafe 21 and Cafe vivo in Newcastle remain. This small group has consistently outperformed other NE restaurants and they are all well worth a visit.
